From the Chair
Dear Colleagues:
Our focus at Blue Shield of California Foundation is to support the people and solutions that can help our state meet the needs of today and lead change for tomorrow.
No Californian should suffer because they cannot afford to see a doctor, yet for over 6 million uninsured Californians, this is a reality. That's why the Foundation is playing a critical role in not only sustaining but strengthening the healthcare safety net today and working toward comprehensive health reform.
It is also unacceptable that every year, half a million women across California continue to be threatened with violence in their own homes by their partner or spouse. As the largest private funder of domestic violence services and prevention in the state, we continue to play a vital role in protecting the safety of those at risk while funding innovative ways to prevent future violence.
And, as we remain deeply engaged in advancing these goals, we are undergoing change at the Foundation with the departure of Crystal Hayling, who ably served as our President and CEO for five years. While Crystal is greatly missed, a search process is currently underway for a President and CEO, and we look forward to bringing new talent to a team that has already earned a reputation for leadership and excellence.
Now more than ever, the Foundation is poised to make a difference in the lives of Californians. Stay tuned for a new year of opportunity.
Sincerely,
Aliza Lifshitz, M.D.
