Rick Bond

Supervisor of Grant Operations

Rick Bond (he/him) is supervisor of grant operations for Blue Shield of California Foundation. He facilitates the Foundation’s grantmaking operations through all stages of the process. Rick is particularly attuned to identifying and implementing workflow improvements that ensure our grants processes are clear, accessible, efficient, and most of all rooted in diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Rick brings more than 18 years of grants administration and program experience to the Foundation. He has served as a program officer for the San Francisco Department of Children, Youth and Families, a grants administrator for San Francisco State University’s Office of Research and Sponsored Programs, and as a research process manager for the Stanford University School of Medicine where he coordinated the pre-award grant proposal process for the departments of genetics and pulmonary critical care medicine. Having seen grantmaking from many different vantage points, from direct service to development to funder (both private and government), Rick has a unique diversity of knowledge of the field and ideas that he is always excited to share with the Foundation and its grantees.

Rick holds a bachelor’s degree in liberal studies and a master's in English from San Francisco State University. In his spare time, he likes writing songs, watching shows, and running.
