Blue Shield of California Foundation is offering five $1,000 reporting fellowships to Pivot Fund partners who are covering domestic violence in their communities in 2025.
This opportunity is available to anyone who has participated in our joint workshops featuring the Journalist Playbook.
Our goals are to support more of the community-driven, trauma-informed, solutions-oriented reporting on domestic violence that the playbook promotes.
To submit an application
To apply, please send us an email with your name, outlet, and contact information, and describe, in 250-1,000 words:
- Your story or project idea, why it’s important to your community, and its link to the Journalist Playbook workshop or website
- If applicable, how your project engages communities of color with low incomes
- If applicable, how your domestic violence project connects with immigration, public health, and/or housing
Fellows selected by Pivot Fund and Blue Shield of California Foundation staff will receive $1,000 to support their reporting. These funds are not restricted, but fellows will be asked to write a brief description of their expenses. These could include travel, records requests, background checks, fresh photography or illustration, software licenses, membership in a professional organization, mental health support, time off from work, and child or elder care.
We are especially interested in stories that we could amplify on social media during Domestic Violence Awareness Month in October, but projects may be completed by Dec. 31, 2025.
Send your application email by Sept. 15, 2025 to jenna.lane
