March is Women’s History Month, an opportunity to both celebrate the accomplishments of women in our society, as well as acknowledge the unique challenges that women still face today.

In this issue we consider some of the inequities that this persistent pandemic continues to reveal and reinforce, even as a path ahead begins to emerge.

Despite the deep problems and difficulties presented — and exacerbated — by the pandemic and its health, social, and economic consequences, we begin the new year with hope for progress on many fronts.

We look at the importance of the care economy, and the workers who care for children, the elderly, survivors of domestic violence, and those needing extra help at home.

In this month’s issue, we focus on the recent election and what it means for the health of Californians.

We see domestic violence as being deeply interconnected with a number of issues that communities face: including but not limited to the COVID-19 pandemic, financial stability, homelessness, immigration, substance use, and mental health.

Our selected stories highlight some of the inequities Californians and people across the country experience in many spheres of life that are demanding our attention today.
